Vintage Sheffield English Pewter ABC Baby Mug, child’s cup with the alphabet letters incised on one side and numbers one through twenty incised on the other side. There is a decorative flower framed area in between the alphabet and the number listings, and I wonder if this area was designed for a personalized monogram? There are no monograms on this charming little baby mug.
The bottom of this Sheffield Pewter baby mug is marked with a triangle inside a circle. In the triangle is “B” and “PC”. The mark at the top of the circle is hard to read, but I think is says “English”, and I am sure it says “Pewter”. At the bottom of the circle it says “Made in Sheffield” and “TML”.
The baby mug measures about 3 inches in height, and is about 2 inches across the top, and about 2 7/8 inches across the bottom. It is shaped like a small stein or miniature tankard.
I do not know the age of this child’s cup, but I am guessing that it is an older one? This unusual vintage baby mug has been used, and there are some bends, dents, dings around the top, and around the bottom edges, making the mug somewhat out-of-round on both top and bottom (see photos). There are some small dents, dings, and scratches here and there around the body of the baby mug. I see a small dent between the number 9 and the number 10. There is a small separation crack in the top band just above the handle, and I have included photos for you to see this. There is a little bit of darkened area inside the baby mug that did not wash out with gentle cleaning, and a few darkened areas in the patina on the outside of the mug.
This is a hard-to-find Sheffield English Pewter baby mug that would make an interesting addition to your collection, or a great gift for that special collector!
