Vintage “Honest John” fox statue figure, signed on the back “Walt Disney Prod. Multi Products, Chicago”. This Honest John fox was a character in a Walt Disney Pinocchio cartoon film, which was released in 1940. This sly fox character was known as J. Worthington Foulfellow in that Walt Disney cartoon production. The figure is not dated, but I estimate that it was made around 1940?
This charming Walt Disney Productions character has a blue and red top hat, green pants, and a red necktie with yellow spots. The fox has touches of yellow paint in his eyes, and white paint on his face. His coat and cane are brown. There is a touch of green paint on the cane.
This 1940’s figurine is made of a composition or composite-type material, which I think is called “Syrocco” or “Syrocco Wood”? The fox measures about 7 inches tall. The base measures about 2 ¾ inches by about 2 ½ inches.
This Honest John fox figure has some condition issues, with chips, paint loss, paint flecks, and age wear and tear here and there. The back of the left ear and the front of the right ear have chips. The edge of the nose has some wear. The brim of the hat and the edges of the base have wear and tear. This J. Worthington Foulfellow fox figurine has overall flaking, chipping, and wear and tear. There are some cracks from age and crazing on the surface areas here and there. I have included as many photographs as possible for you to review.
This unusual Disney character from a very early Pinocchio cartoon film is hard-to-find, and it would make a wonderful addition to your collection, or a great gift for that special collector.
