Antique Swedish Psalm Book “Den Svenska Psalm-Boken, AF AR 1819” on the title page, and “Rock Island, Ill., The Lutheran Augustana Book Concern”. Also inside it says “Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1884 by Enander & Bohman”. The cover is leather, and says “Psalm-Bok” in gold colored letters on the front, and also on the side with a gold colored cross. The page edges are gold-gilt in color.
I cannot read the language in this book, and I am pretty sure this is written in Swedish (?), but please look at the photos of example pages and decide for yourself. I do not think it is a complete Bible (?), but it is a Psalm Book, and I cannot say which scriptures are included.
This charming little Bible Psalm Book measures about 2 3/4 inches by about 4 ¼ inches, and is about 1 ¼ inch thick. There are 419 numbered pages. This antique book is in very good condition, with a wonderful antique patina that has some dark and light wear spots on the leather cover from age, and a tiny black spot on the front. The leather cover feels wonderfully soft on the outside to the touch. There is a pencil written name inside the cover that I think maybe says “Anna Wougdahl”? The binding is tight, and there may have been a little glue applied to the front inside spine binding at some point, but it is really hard to tell, and I included a photo for you to review.
There is some age wear and tear around the edges of the leather cover, and a tiny (less than 1/8 inch) tear on the leather at the bottom of the spine. There are no torn pages on the book, and it looks as if someone really cared for this special little antique Psalm book.
